Birdman en Boyhood zijn de grote winnaars van de Critics’ Choice Awards

De bekendmaking van de Oscarnominaties was nog maar net koud toen de Critics’ Choice Awards al werden uitgereikt. Birdman verzilverde zeven nominaties en Boyhood werd uitgeroepen tot beste film van het jaar.

Geen grote verrassingen bij de hoofdprijzen van de Critics’ Choice Awards. Boyhoodkreeg de award voor beste film en Richard Linklater ging naar huis met een beeldje voor beste regisseur. De hoofdrolspeler van Boyhood, Ellar Coltrane, wist ook de prijs voor beste jonge acteur te verzilveren en zijn moeder op het witte doek, Patricia Arquette, werd bekroond tot beste actrice in bijrol.

Birdman sleepte maar liefst zeven awards in de wacht. Michael Keaton, de protagonist, ging naar huis met de prijs voor beste acteur en beste acteur in een komedie. De hele cast kreeg samen de ensembleprijs. Ook verzilverde de prent de prijzen voor beste originele script, beste cinemùatografie, beste editing en beste soundtrack.

Zij die teleurgesteld waren dat The Lego Movie geen Oscarnominatie ontving, konden tijdens de Critics’ Choice Awards terug gerust ademhalen toen de prent werd uitgeroepen tot beste animatiefilm.

The Grand Budapest Hotel van Wes Anderson werd uitgeroepen tot beste komedie en kreeg ook de prijzen voor beste art direction en beste kostuums.

De speciale prijzen gingen naar Jessica Chastain, Kevin Costner en Ron Howard. Chastain werd bekroong met de MVP Award voor haar uitzonderlijke werk in vier films het voorbije jaar. De Lifetime Achievement Award prijkt nu op de schouw van Kevin Costner en Ton Howard kreeg de Louis XIII Genius Award.

De Zweedse prent Force Majeure kreeg geen Oscarnominatie, maar werd door de Critics’ Choice Awards uitgeroepen tot beste buitenlandse film. (LP)
