Beyoncé en Adele grootste kanshebbers bij MTV Video Music Awards

De MTV Video Music Awards 2016-nominaties zijn bekend gemaakt. Grande dames Beyoncé en Adele zijn de grootste slokops. Taylor Swift is echter nergens te bespeuren op de lijst.

Onze Noorderburen zijn ook vertegenwoordigd in de lijst. De Nederlandse Afrojack, maakt met zijn video voor SummerThing! kans op de award voor Best Electronic Video. De Nederlandse regisseur Paul Geusebroek is in de running voor een award met zijn werk voor de Desiigner-video Panda in de categorie Best Hip Hop Video.

Waar is Taylor?

Tijdens de MTV Video Music Awards van vorig jaar was Taylor Swift prominente aanwezige. Ze kreeg tien nominaties, waarvan ze er vier kon verzilveren. De prestigieuze ‘Video Of The Year’ ging toen naar ‘Bad Blood’, haar video die bol stond van de celebs.

Bovendien stond ze ook in de kijker omwille van haar Twitterruzie met Nicki Minaj, die de jury ervan beschuldigde vooral blanke, slanke sterren met prijzen te belonen. Swift zag dit als sneer naar haar nominaties en reageerde heftig. De strijdbijl werd inmiddels begraven, toen beide zangeressen inzagen dat het om een misverstand ging. Kortom, 2015 was het jaar waarin Swift het nieuws rond de MTV Awards domineerde. Maar dus geen nominatie voor de ster dit jaar.

Haar album 1989 kwam bijna twee jaar geleden uit, maar dit jaar verschenen er verschillende videoclips die in acht genomen konden worden voor de MTV VMA’s. ‘Wildest Dreams’, ‘Out Of The Woods’ en ‘New Romantics’ werden allemaal genegeerd in de lijst van genomineerde videoclips. De twee sterren waarmee ze dit jaar in de clinch ligt, ex Calvin Harris en de megalomane Kanye West, rijfden wel nominaties binnen.

Vrouwelijke artiesten aan de top

Een van de grootste kanshebbers dit jaar is Beyoncé, die met 11 nominaties voor de video’s van haar visual album Lemonade een persoonlijk VMA-record vestigt. Ook Adele scoort hoog met 8 nominaties, waarvan 7 voor haar video voor Hello, die YouTube records verbrak. Hello, Beyoncé’s Formation, Drake’s Hotline Bling, Justin Bieber’s Sorry en Famous van Kanye West zijn in de running voor de Video of the Year-award. De prijzen worden uitgereikt op 28 augustus in Madison Square Garden in New York. Stemmen voor de MTV Video Music Awards 2016 kan vanaf nu via vma.mtv.com.
