Overlijden Philip Seymour Hoffman: Filmwereld in rouw

Hollywood reageert met verslagenheid op het overlijden van Philip Seymour Hoffman. ‘There are no words. It’s just terrible.’ Filmsterren hebben zich massaal uitgelaten via sociale media.

De filmwereld rouwt om de overleden topacteur Philip Seymour Hoffman. In zijn acteercarrière – meer dan 60 films rijk – schitterde hij in zowel kleine als grote rollen, met de vertolkingen in Capote, waarvoor hij in 2006 een Oscar kreeg, en de fantastische film The Master van Paul Thomas Anderson (2012) als absolute hoogtepunten. ‘Dat was acteerkunst van een eenzaam hoog niveau’, aldus Ward Verrijcken in het Radio 1-programma ‘De Ochtend’.

‘Ik ben heel bedroefd en kan onmogelijk begrijpen wat er vandaag is gebeurd’, zegt de Nederlandse fotograaf en regisseur Anton Corbijn. Eind dit jaar komt zijn film A Most Wanted Man uit, waarin Philip Seymour Hoffman een Duitse spion vertolkt. ‘Ik heb moeite mijn gedachten te ordenen. ‘Philip was niet alleen de beste acteur die ik op mijn set heb gehad. Maar hij was ook een bijzonder inspirerende en meelevende vriend. Dit nieuws is een grote schok voor mij.’
