Soundtrack ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ bekend

Het zal menig Wes Anderson-fan verbazen, maar op de soundtrack van ‘The Grand Budapest’ hotel prijkt geen enkele classic rock of pop song. Alexandre Desplat mocht vrijwel de hele soundtrack vullen met zijn composities.

De Franse componist Alexandre Desplat, die al vijf maal voor een Oscar genomineerd werd, is een graag geziene gast in Hollywood. Hij schreef onder meer de muziek voor ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, ‘The King’s Speech’ en ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ deel 1 en 2. En ook met Wes Anderson werkte hij in het verleden al samen voor ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ en ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’.

Wes Anderson bewijst met deze keuze dat hij meer en meer afstand neemt van zijn tijdloze universums en resoluut kiest voor een cinematografische wereld die tijd- en plaatsgebonden is. Naast de composities van Desplat kiest hij immers voor drie folkloristische/klassieke nummers van Öse Schuppel, Siegfried Behrend, Vitaly Gnutov, in plaats van opnieuw een catchy popdeuntje te implementeren.

De soundtrack wordt uitgegeven door ABKCO Records en is beschikbaar vanaf 4 maart. Wie wil, kan de cd nu al bestellen in pre-order via Amazon.

De Belgische release van ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ staat gepland voor 5 maart. (LP)
